How the payment processing fee works

What is the payment processing fee?

The processing fee applies to all supported payment methods except bank transfer, Wallet, Open Banking, and SEPA. It reflects the payment provider’s processing cost and is added after you select a payment method at checkout.

Why is RateHawk introducing this fee?

This update makes pricing more transparent. The total booking amount is not increasing. Instead, the hotel price and any applicable processing fee are now shown separately, so you can see a clearer price breakdown at checkout.

Which payment methods do not have a processing fee?

Bank transfer, Wallet, Open Banking, and SEPA do not have a processing fee.

What does this change mean for partners?

Hotel prices on the search page and hotel pages are now presented separately from any applicable processing fee, giving you access to more competitive displayed rates. The final amount depends on the payment method you choose at checkout.

Using bank transfer, Wallet, Open Banking, or SEPA can also help you benefit from more competitive net pricing without the processing fee.

Where will I see this on the platform?

You’ll see updates in several places:

  • Search page and hotel pages: A notice will appear: “Extra fee may apply to certain payment methods.”

  • Booking form: A “fee” label will appear next to each applicable payment method. Hovering over it will show the same notice.

  • “Orders” tab: New fields will appear: “Payment processing fee” and “Payment processing fee refund.” A new “Processing fee” line will also appear in the payment confirmation.

Will I see the total amount before paying?

Yes. The final amount will always be shown after you select the payment method at checkout. The processing fee may vary depending on the payment method used.

What happens if I create a payment link for my client?

Your client will see the final amount, including any applicable processing fee, at checkout after selecting a payment method.

When using Gross, you can select “I will cover the fee” on the booking form or when creating a payment link. The processing fee will then be deducted from your commission instead of being added to your client’s payment amount.
